The Legal Committee of the Employers' Association discussed the challenges in the enforcement of the Labor Code.

On May 19, a meeting of the Legal Committee of the Association of Georgian Employers was held, the purpose of which was to discuss such topical issues and challenges related to the implementation of the new Labor Code, such as: Time recording of employees' work; status of an enterprise with a specific working regime of 48 hours; additional leave for employees in harmful and dangerous work; long litigations. The meeting was chaired by the executive director of the Association of Georgian Employers, Lasha Labadze, and the head of the legal department, Nikoloz Abutidze. As a result of argumentative discussions within the meeting, legal regulations with an impeding effect on business operations were identified, which require additional financial resources from the private sector, are also an obstacle not only to hiring new staff, but also put companies in a position to reduce the workforce. Also, tightened regulations make it difficult to start a business in the country, which in turn will prevent the inflow of investments. "At the meeting, we presented the experience of different EU countries to the representatives of the association and offered alternatives that comply with EU directives, but are more flexible for business operation than the current practice in Georgia. Also, we heard the challenges in their daily work related to the implementation of the new labor code. Finally, we reached certain decisions, about which we will continue to discuss at the meeting with business unions and develop legislative initiatives," - Nikoloz Abutidze, Head of the Legal Department of the Association of Georgian Employers. The Association of Employers of Georgia will present the developed legislative initiatives to the members of the tripartite social partnership commission, local and international organizations, as well as other interested parties and will give a demonstration of the legislative initiatives.
