The Law on Labor Safety came into effect today. Labor inspectors will have the right to inspect the working conditions of employees without warning of the organization. In the first stage, the law will apply to high-risk, heavy, harmful and dangerous jobs.
In connection with the implementation of the law, an extended meeting was held at the training center of the Ministry of Health. The event was opened by Davit Sergeenko, Minister of Labor, Health and Social Protection of IDPs from the occupied territories of Georgia.
The Association of Employers of Georgia, as a social partner of the government, was actively involved in the development of the law and its enforcement mechanisms. Speaking at the event, the president of the association noted that the new labor safety law does not fully reflect the interests of the business sector. "All parties agree that the development of a labor safety policy in Georgia is of the utmost importance, however, we have some comments on the implementation of the law in this form by the employers' association. We propose to the Ministry to make the introduction of labor safety systems in companies a priority direction, rather than monitoring. In the future, the association plans to actively work with social partners, so that the adaptation to the new regulations will be as painless as possible for the business sector," said Elguja Meladze.
The Law of Georgia "On Labor Safety" imposes such obligations for employers and employees as: • creation of a safe and healthy working environment for employers, employees and other persons in the workplace. • definition of rights, duties and responsibilities for employees; • Improving the organization and management of labor safety at workplaces; • Developing a labor safety policy and assigning a certified person responsible for labor safety; • At the employer's expense, the unfortunate occurrence of employees in dangerous, heavy, harmful and dangerous jobs.
