On May 4-5, for the member companies of the Association of Georgian Employers, a training was held at the Crowne Plaza Borjomi hotel on the topic - elimination of violence and harassment through work practices.
The aim of the training was to raise the awareness of employers and their representatives about the practical implementation and business practices of International Labor Organization (ILO) Convention #190 (Violence and Harassment at the Workplace). Prevention of workplace violence and harassment is not only a moral aspect, but also a combination of peace, security, stability, health and other issues. Therefore, this course will increase the technical knowledge and ability of the members of the Association/GEA to see their role in creating and promoting a workplace that is safe and free from violence and harassment.
The training was led by experts invited by the International Labor Organization (ILO) in the direction of violence, harassment and discrimination.
In 2019, the International Labor Conference (ILC) adopted Convention #190 on Violence and Harassment with its accompanying Recommendation #206. It should be noted that in recent years, many countries have ratified the mentioned convention, which implies a number of legal obligations of employers. Many companies have developed a number of approaches to meet these obligations. Due to the fact that the Government of Georgia, in a tripartite format and in the relevant working group, plans to actively work for the ratification of the Convention, the given training and acquired knowledge become even more important for employers' readiness and compliance with the relevant legal changes.
The Association of Employers of Georgia, within the framework of the tripartite social dialogue commission, continues to work on the mentioned issues and represents the agreed position of the members in the process of ratifying the Convention (#190).
The training was carried out with the support of the ILO/DANIDA project - "Inclusive Labor Markets for Job Creation in Georgia".
